Sorting

Sorting is an important first step in plastic recycling process. Sorting is done according to resin type. This is done to eliminate contamination as it can render a batch of material un-reusable. Resins separated include: high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). They must be separated carefully from one another in order to enable further processing. Contaminants within each type of plastic type are removed from the base resin for stock purity.
